Important Water Damage Information!
It’s a beautiful Spring morning and you wake up to sunshine and birds chirping. Looking forward to the morning cup of coffee and paper, you head to the kitchen. As you get closer to the kitchen, you start to hear water dripping and you wonder if you left the faucet on overnight.
Enter kitchen, begin panic mode. There is water EVERYWHERE! The entire floor is soaked with water, and now so are your feet and pajamas! You aren’t sure what happened, but you know something needs to happen; and quick!
You never have to worry when you call Rock Emergency. We get called out for water damage for many reasons. No matter how big or small the flood is, we’re here for you every step of the way! Our flood restoration technicians are prepared to go through this with you, we know times like this can be devastating.
We take pride in ethically and promptly resolving any water damage to your home or property. We also follow all ANSI/IICRC S500-2015 Standards for Water Damage Restoration which keeps us within OSHA guidelines and EPA regulations!
Repairing the Damage
Before we get started on anything, there is some information we need from you, as well as the need to complete an evaluation to assess the extent of water damage. When it comes to water damage repair, we must first evaluate the amount of damage as well as the type of damage we are dealing with.
The cause of the flood is also important in the process of water mitigation. Depending on how it happened will depend on the way we manage the water clean-up process.
Regardless of how the flooding occurred, we follow many of the same procedures. First and foremost, we ensure the safety of you and your family or employees. We turn off any source of water (if we can) and secure the property from hazardous situations like electrical issues or debris.
Since water can cause a lot of damage, it is best to work quickly and efficiently to prevent further water damage. We will remove anything that can be removed from the area including furniture and belongings.
Removing everything allows us to get to the floors and walls to begin the water extraction and drying process. We use top of the line equipment and have access to an abundance of resources if need be.
It is not uncommon to have to rip up flooring or cut away sections of walls. Be assured that we only do this to completely dry out the property. Without proper drying, mold and mildew could become a new problem for you.
During the whole water mitigation process, we will be using high powered air movers, industrial strength dehumidifiers, water suction mats and meters to detect moisture.
Types of Water Damage
Water damage can be caused for numerous reasons. Some situations are out of our control and can be horrific. Rock Emergency travels near and far and is prepared for whatever water restoration needs you may have.

Along with the different causes for flooding and water damage, there are also categories and classes of water damage. Did you know that?
Classes and Categories of Water
Class 1 Damage – Very little damage has been caused and will be the easiest for water cleanup.
Class 2 Damage – Water evaporates quickly leaving moisture in materials like cushions and carpets. Water restoration becomes more difficult.
Class 3 Damage – Water evaporates the quickest and leaves moisture in walls and furniture making it even more difficult for water damage repair.
Class 4 Damage – The water damage has likely affected the structure (plaster, flooring, concrete foundation). Damage in this manner requires a licensed Water Damage Restoration Company for effective water mitigation
Category 1 – Clean (White) Water – This water is what comes out of the faucet or storm water (rain or hail). This water is clean and not contaminated, making it least hazardous to humans. Think of if a bathtub overflowed, this would be clean water.
Category 2 – Gray Water – This water is going to be contaminated of some sort and will contain microorganisms. This water is not clean and can make someone sick if ingested. Think of the water that comes out of the sump pump, broken toilets, and drained water from appliances or sinks.
Category 3 – Black Water – This kind of water can be considered a biohazard and will be very harmful if ingested. Bacteria and other organisms thrive in black water, usually caused by sewage and stagnant standing water.
Effects of Untreated Water Damage
If any water is left untreated, there is a considerable risk for both short term and long-term water damage. The obvious occurs right away; your belongings get wet or completely ruined.
If you don’t take care of these items, they will start to dry and create a breeding ground for mold, mildew and bacteria.
You know when you leave a load of laundry in the washer too long? Your whole home could smell like that if water is left to sit. It can develop in as little as 24-hours!
After time, your items are not only ruined, but your causing damage to other parts of your home as well. Most of the time, things can be replaced easy enough, but it is a lot harder to replace a home; more expensive too!
The longer water is left, the more damage to your flooring and walls may be irreversible. Not only that, but also the damage to your air ducts and the air quality of your home will become compromised.
Next is the electrical systems. Water and electricity do not mix, and if left untreated can cause a shortage in your entire home which can be very costly to replace.
So, the best way to prevent mold, mildew, structural damage, electrical problems, and the need for a new home is to call the Water Damage Restoration technicians at Rock Emergency. We’ll take care of you!
Once the Water is Gone
After all traces of water have been removed, Rock Emergency can better assess any other damage caused by the water. We will check the source (unless it was Mother Nature) and be sure any repairs are completed to ensure it doesn’t happen again.
Floors will be cleaned and replaced if needed, as well as any repairs to walls or ceilings. We will also conduct a basic mold assessment where the water damage occurred to be sure there is no mold or damage caused by mold. If there are any mold issues, we will also take care of that for you.
There are things you will need to do also. Any damp or wet belongings will either need to be disposed of or taken to a dry area to get dried out and cleaned. Anything that was affected by the water needs to be removed, dried, and cleaned.
Best part about all this? We work with your insurance company, so you don’t have to! We can do it all, and we are here for you every step of the way!
