Emergency Evacuation

An Emergency Evacuation Plan (EEP) is a plan created by you and your family, or business administration. Depending on the emergency, the disaster plan may vary. In most cases, the plan will consist of the route everyone needs to take to get out of the home or building safely.

Next, there will be a meeting place where everyone goes once they are out. This may include a neighbor’s home, a parking lot or another business location. For the best evacuation plan, know what types of disasters may arise in your area. For example, if you are in a commonly flooded area, or in an area known for tornadoes, create the evacuation plan with those emergencies in mind.

There are other things to keep in mind aside from the exit route of an evacuation plan. There are things to prepare before evacuation (if there is time) as well as what to do during and after evacuation.

Emergency Preparedness Kit

Emergency Preparedness Kit

Depending on where you live, it is almost inevitable for some sort of disaster to hit. While Albany, NY is known for its lovely snowstorms, other areas are commonly known for tornadoes, hurricanes, and extreme weather.

Having an emergency preparedness kit ready to go in the event of any of these disasters may just save a life. When making up your kit, it is important to keep in mind if there is anything unique about your family. Pets, infants, senior adults; each may require something specific. Be sure to keep that in mind.

Emergency kits should be able to be packed into one or two lightweight waterproof containers. Many people choose a duffle bag and a plastic waterproof bin for their emergency supplies.

There are basic disaster supplies and other additional supplies which may vary depending on the type of disaster. The best practice is to pack for each family member, for at least three days.
